Circle of Support/Friends

A circle of support or circle of friends is made up of people; friends, family and allies who want to support the person to have a better life. Meeting on regular basis Circle members listen to the focus person and work out how they might help them to improve their lives This process supports self determination and shows respect for the individual who has the right to make decisions and choices about themselves and their lives.

Circle of support is based on the values of inclusion and in particular John O'Brian's five dimensions of:-

These conditions act as a guide to the role of our services in the person's life. Where the person is unable to clearly make their wishes known the friends, family and allies of the focus person are seen as the experts and are supported to find solutions and possibilities to create a positive future for the focus person.

Our role here is to help the person identify who might be invited to their circle and to coordinate and facilitate the meetings until such time they can run effectively themselves.
